The Medicaid-CHIP State Dental Association has collaborated with the Dental Quality Alliance (DQA) in the development of the first set of comprehensive, fully-validated quality measures set in dentistry. These measures address utilization, cost, and quality of dental services for children enrolled in public (Medicaid, CHIP) and private (commercial) insurance programs. You can find these measures and the specifications here.
Many major dental professional societies, payers, educators, and health professions organizations outside dentistry, as well as a member from the general public, came together as an Alliance to further the DQA mission. Several federal agencies under the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) serve as technical advisors to the DQA. The American Dental Association (ADA) led the establishment of the DQA at the request of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and continues to support its activities (View more information about the DQA).
The DQA has devoted tremendous time and resources to ensure that valid measures are developed and used for assessing and improving performance. Appendix 1 provides a brief rationale to demonstrate the value of the DQA measures. Appendix 2 provides an overview of the measure set.
